    The now sperate Czech and Slovak republics are undergoing badly needed modernization of their laws and economics. Transport and communications were neglected for decades, while today education and culture are badly pinched by governmental parsimony. While politics is democratized, the market economy and free enterprise have widened class. The information I have learned about the new legislatures of both Central Europe and Africa is included in this book. I have visited and researched parliaments in Poland and the former Federal Assembly of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, and in Nigeria and other African countries.

Historically, Czechs have exercised greater political and economic power than the Slovaks.
